Welcome to the Quebec Vipassana Meditation Centre The centre is dedicated to the practice of Vipassana Meditation as taught by S. N. Goenka in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin. Vipassana means "to see things as they really are". It is a logical process of mental purification through self-observation. Although springing from the teachings of the Buddha, this non-sectarian technique is open to everyone regardless of background or belief. About Dhamma Suttama The Québec Vipassana Centre, also called in Pali, Dhamma Suttama, meaning "the best of Dhamma", is one of the 118 International Vipassana meditation centres devoted to the teaching and practice of Vipassana meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka. It is located halfway between Montréal and Ottawa/Gatineau, five kilometers north of Montebello. On this exceptional property, in a tranquil, open valley surrounded by forest, the centre can accommodate more than 100 students per course. Purchased in February 2011, this new centre at Montebello continues to uphold the mission of the former Sutton centre established in 1999. To Apply for a Course To learn the basics of Vipassana meditation, one needs to take an introductory residential ten-day course. Arrival and departure time Directions to the Centre and Rideshare : Travelling time by car is 90 minutes from Montreal, 60 minutes from Gatineau/Ottawa, and approximately four hours from Quebec City. Introduction to Vipassana Meditation Vipassana, which means seeing things as they really are, is one of India's most ancient meditation techniques. Long lost to humanity, it was rediscovered more than 2500 years ago by Gotama the Buddha who has taught it as a universal remedy for universal problems. We recommend to those not familiar with Vipassana Meditation to read the text based upon a public talk given by Mr. S.N. Goenka in Berne, Switzerland, 1980. Information
